ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Representative Natalie Manley (D-Joliet) restarted her Women's
Legislative Advisory Committee (WLAC). This advisory committee aims to continue the legacy
of providing a dedicated forum for women to directly engage with lawmakers and share their
insights for future policy development.
Rep. Manley regularly hosts a series of Legislative Advisory Committees (LACs), which all
meet at the Joliet Junior College Romeoville Campus to foster direct community engagement. In
addition to WLAC, the Rep hosts the Retirees Legislative Advisory Committee (RLAC), the
newly created Neurodiversity Legislative Advisory Committee (NeuroLAC) and the
Grandparents Raising Grandchildren Legislative Advisory Committee (GrandLAC). These
committees highlight Rep. Manley's commitment to ensuring everyone has the opportunity to
inform the legislative process.
Under Manlely’s leadership, previous LACs have shaped legislation
that specifically addresses issues that were identified during the committee meetings.
The Women’s Legislative Advisory Committee had strong participation during Covid, and is
now seeing again a strong turnout and active participation, with attendees openly sharing their
experiences and proposals. State Representative and Assistant Majority Leader Dagmara Avelar
(D-Romeoville) joined Rep. Manley in hearing the concerns of the women who attended.
Discussions covered a wide range of critical issues affecting women, including mental health
services, parental leave, community safety, youth programs, equal rights and domestic violence.
"Rebooting the Women's Legislative Advisory Committee was a priority, and the robust dialogue
at our first meeting proved just how vital this forum is. The previous WLAC group was
incredibly productive and I have no doubt this one will be the same,” Rep. Manley said. "I am
incredibly grateful to everyone who participated, and I urge more women from across our
community to join us and lend their invaluable voices to shape policies that truly reflect their
needs."
WLAC is scheduled to meet monthly on the third Tuesday of each month at the JJC Romeoville
Campus. RSVPs are required prior to attending each meeting. To learn more about participation,
