CREST HILL, Ill. – State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, spoke to retirees about healthcare,
taxes, prescription drugs and other issues concerning them at a recent homeowners association
meeting at Park Place on the Green.
Park Place on the Green is a 55 and over retirement community located in Crest Hill. The
homeowner association invited Manley to speak to its residents.
Under Manley’s leadership, families and seniors will finally be closer to relief from prescription
drug price gouging under a new law cracking down on deceptive tactics big pharma middlemen
use to unjustly inflate the cost of prescription medications. The Prescription Drug Affordability
Act (House Bill 1697) was recently signed into law.
“The Prescription Drug Affordability Act prioritizes the health of Illinoisans by halting the
influence of private corporations, which are driving smaller pharmacies out of business and
taking home the padded profits, specifically Prescription Benefit Managers (PBMs)” said
Manley. “By outlawing the deceptive tactics used to raise drug prices, and forcing PBMs to
reveal their practices and pass on rebates to patients, residents and smaller pharmacies can
anticipate some relief, lowered costs of their prescriptions and increased access to them.”
Residents were able to share their opinions on a number of issues, including public safety,
government consolidation. Several residents applauded Manley’s dedication to making sure
grandparents who are raising their grandchildren receive the support they need.
