Manley Hosts Monthly Retirees Legislative Advisory Committee with Guest Speaker from Senior Services

ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – In an ongoing effort to help seniors, State Rep. Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, hosted a retirees legislative advisory committee, called RLAC. 

At this month’s meeting, Rep. Manley welcomed a guest speaker Matt Arbanas from Will County Senior Services. He discussed the many programs that are available to seniors who qualify.

“Retirement comes with a new stage of life, with its own set of challenges,” Rep. Manley said. “Will County Senior Services helps people navigate all areas of these next steps.”

Arbanas outlined a number of services and programs, including ways to help caregivers, including respite care, where Senior Services arranges a professional to stay in their home, giving them an opportunity to get out for errands, grocery shopping, or just to unwind. Caregiver workshops and support groups are also available.

Will County Senior Services also offers a number of services, including emergency senior services, care screening, protective services and tax preparation. There are a number of health screenings available, such as bone density, blood pressure and vaccinations. Fitness programs include Tai-chi, stretch and tone, yoga and line dancing.

There are also a wide variety of educational programs available through Senior Services, such as senior scams, rules of the road, mental health first aid, smartphone use, Facebook instruction, wills and trusts, and healthy eating.

Manley hosts these legislative advisory committees to identify areas where policy solutions could help. In addition to RLAC, Rep. Manley also hosts three other legislative action committees: Grandparents Raising Grandchildren (GrandLAC), Women’s LAC (WLAC), and Neurodiversity LAC (NeuroLAC).
