ROMEOVILLE, Ill. – State Representative Natalie Manley, D-Joliet, joined State Representative Dagmara Avelar, D-Romeoville, who held a ‘Craft & Chat’ event at the Ovation Center. The event brought together constituents from all age groups to spend time discussing issues that matter to them, while painting and crafting.
This is another example in a series of events that Manley attends to continually connect with her constituents about issues that matter to them. Here, they discussed a wide variety of topics with attendees, ranging from autism support in education and work programs, to end of life care.
“Thanks to Rep. Avelar for hosting such a fun event,” Manley said. “It works well for us to combine efforts with our constituents since our districts each share half of Romeoville, and half of Bolingbrook, and small parts of other municipalities.”
These craft & chats, along with regular “Nat Chats,” which are held at coffee houses, are more casual events, compared to Manley’s monthly legislative advisory committee meetings, known as LACs, which are more structured. Manley hosts a retirees LAC, grandparents raising grandchildren LAC, neurodiversity LAC and women’s LAC each month.
“I’ve never been much of an artist myself,” said Manley, “but when Representative Avelar suggested crafting, I thought it was a great way to connect.” To learn more about future opportunities, follow Rep. Manley and Rep. Avelar on Facebook and Instagram.
